Disaster can happen at any moment, and it usually strikes without warning. When you are ready for a catastrophe, you increase your odds of surviving and recovering. My town in northern New Jersey was hit by high winds that toppled many trees and utility poles. Our town was without electricity for 10-14 days. Our CERT set up a shelter, and with the help of the Red Cross, and AmeriCorps we provide food, warmth, sleep, and emotional comfort for hundreds of people for 14 days. The event enabled me to prove my self worth, and it was the most rewarding thing that I did in the Twenty First century. But what if there’s a larger disaster coming?
